China to Bangladesh shipping cost (2026): air, sea, sensitive rates compared
Real per-kg shipping rates from China to Bangladesh in 2026. Air (৳750/kg general, ৳1,150 sensitive, ৳850 cosmetic via BSTI lane). Sea (৳280/kg, 35-45 days). Plus how billable weight is actually calculated and what hidden costs to watch.
Shipping cost from China to Bangladesh is one of two things that decide whether an import order is profitable (the other is customs). Here are the real 2026 rates we charge at CIEF Source, broken down by lane, plus what most calculators miss.
Per-kg rates from Shenzhen to Dhaka (2026)
| Lane | ৳ per kg | Speed | What goes here |
|---|---|---|---|
| Air · Normal | ৳750 | 10–14 days | General goods — clothing, fashion accessories, mobile cases, home decor |
| Air · Sensitive | ৳1,150 | 14–18 days (via HK transit) | Anything with batteries, liquids, powders, magnets |
| Air · Cosmetic (BSTI lane) | ৳850 | 14–18 days (bulk BSTI clears every 18–25 days) | Skincare, makeup, perfume — anything cosmetic |
| Sea (LCL) | ৳280 (min 2 kg) | 35–45 days | Furniture, appliances, large items, low-value bulk |
Minimum charges: ৳400 for air normal, ৳600 for air sensitive, ৳500 for cosmetic, ৳1,000 for sea. Below the minimum, you're paying for the slot regardless of weight.
Billable weight — the trick that surprises new importers
Air freight charges by the higher of two numbers:
- Actual weight in kg, OR
- Volumetric weight = (length × width × height in cm) / 5000
Example: a 4 kg box of pillow filling measuring 60 × 40 × 30 cm.
- Actual: 4 kg
- Volumetric: (60 × 40 × 30) / 5000 = 14.4 kg ← this is what you pay
This is why low-density items (foam, plush toys, large packaging) hurt your per-unit shipping cost. Sea freight is the answer for low-density items — sea uses CBM (cubic meters) pricing which is much more forgiving of bulk.
Sea vs Air rule of thumb
A useful mental model:
- If your order is under 20 kg, air is almost always right (sea ৳1,000 minimum dominates).
- 20–80 kg, weighing the trade-off: sea saves ~60% but you wait an extra 3 weeks.
- Over 80 kg of bulky items (low density): sea is a no-brainer.
Air pays for itself when:
- Item is fashion / trending (waiting 5 weeks kills the trend)
- High per-unit margin (saving ৳400/kg is rounding error)
- Customer needs replenishment fast
Hidden costs not in the per-kg rate
| Cost | Typical |
|---|---|
| Customs duty (varies by HS code) | 10–35% of declared value |
| BSTI registration (cosmetics, food, electronics) | one-time ৳3,000–25,000 per product family |
| Customs broker fee | ৳3,000–8,000 per shipment (we include this in service fee) |
| Last-mile to non-Dhaka address | ৳50–200 per kg depending on district |
| Insurance (optional) | 0.5–1% of declared value |
CIEF Source's 15% service fee already bundles customs broker, BSTI lane access, last-mile Dhaka, and re-pack at our Chattogram facility. For non-Dhaka, additional last-mile shows up at checkout based on your district.
How to lower shipping cost without compromising
Three tactics most BD importers don't use enough:
- Consolidate orders from multiple suppliers at one CN warehouse → one shipment instead of many. CIEF auto-consolidates anything you order in the same 7-day window for the same shipping method.
- Pre-flatten packaging at the CN warehouse — most factory packaging is wasteful. We re-pack on request.
- Use sea for the boring stuff — bedsheets, furniture, water bottles. Save air for high-margin or trending.
