China to Bangladesh shipping cost (2026): air, sea, sensitive rates compared

Real per-kg shipping rates from China to Bangladesh in 2026. Air (৳750/kg general, ৳1,150 sensitive, ৳850 cosmetic via BSTI lane). Sea (৳280/kg, 30-35 days). Plus how billable weight is actually calculated and what hidden costs to watch.

Short answer

Per-kg rates from Shenzhen to Dhaka in 2026 are ৳750 for general air, ৳1,150 for the sensitive lane (batteries, liquids, powders, magnets), ৳850 for the cosmetic BSTI lane, and ৳280 for sea LCL with a 2 kg minimum. Minimum charges are ৳400, ৳600, ৳500 and ৳1,000. Air freight bills the higher of actual weight and volumetric weight, which is length by width by height in centimetres divided by 5000 — that is what surprises most new importers.

Shipping cost from China to Bangladesh is one of two things that decide whether an import order is profitable (the other is customs). Here are the real 2026 rates we charge at CIEF Source, broken down by lane, plus what most calculators miss.

Per-kg rates from Shenzhen to Dhaka (2026)

Lane৳ per kgSpeedWhat goes here
Air · Normal৳75010–14 daysGeneral goods — clothing, fashion accessories, mobile cases, home decor
Air · Sensitive৳1,15014–18 days (via HK transit)Anything with batteries, liquids, powders, magnets
Air · Cosmetic (BSTI lane)৳85014–18 days (bulk BSTI clears every 18–25 days)Skincare, makeup, perfume — anything cosmetic
Sea (LCL)৳280 (min 2 kg)30–35 daysFurniture, appliances, large items, low-value bulk

Minimum charges: ৳400 for air normal, ৳600 for air sensitive, ৳500 for cosmetic, ৳1,000 for sea. Below the minimum, you're paying for the slot regardless of weight.

Billable weight — the trick that surprises new importers

Air freight charges by the higher of two numbers:

  1. Actual weight in kg, OR
  2. Volumetric weight = (length × width × height in cm) / 5000

Example: a 4 kg box of pillow filling measuring 60 × 40 × 30 cm.

This is why low-density items (foam, plush toys, large packaging) hurt your per-unit shipping cost. Sea freight is the answer for low-density items — sea uses CBM (cubic meters) pricing which is much more forgiving of bulk.

Sea vs Air rule of thumb

A useful mental model:

Air pays for itself when:

Hidden costs not in the per-kg rate

CostTypical
Customs duty (varies by HS code)10–35% of declared value
BSTI registration (cosmetics, food, electronics)one-time ৳3,000–25,000 per product family
Customs broker fee৳3,000–8,000 per shipment (we include this in our price)
Last-mile to non-Dhaka address৳50–200 per kg depending on district
Insurance (optional)0.5–1% of declared value

CIEF Source's price already bundles customs broker, BSTI lane access, last-mile Dhaka, and re-pack at our Chattogram facility. For non-Dhaka, additional last-mile shows up at checkout based on your district.

How to lower shipping cost without compromising

Three tactics most BD importers don't use enough:

  1. Consolidate orders from multiple suppliers at one CN warehouse → one shipment instead of many. CIEF auto-consolidates anything you order in the same 7-day window for the same shipping method.
  2. Pre-flatten packaging at the CN warehouse — most factory packaging is wasteful. We re-pack on request.
  3. Use sea for the boring stuff — bedsheets, furniture, water bottles. Save air for high-margin or trending.

Frequently asked questions

What is volumetric weight and why does it matter?
Air freight charges the higher of your actual weight or the volumetric weight, calculated as length times width times height in centimetres divided by 5000. A 4 kg box measuring 60 by 40 by 30 cm bills as 14.4 kg, which is why low-density goods such as foam and plush toys hurt your per-unit shipping cost.
Should I choose sea or air freight?
Under 20 kg air is almost always right because the sea minimum charge dominates. Between 20 and 80 kg it is a trade-off: sea saves roughly 60 percent but adds about three weeks. Over 80 kg of bulky low-density goods, sea is the obvious choice.
What costs are not included in the per-kg rate?
Customs duty of roughly 10 to 35 percent of declared value depending on HS code, one-off BSTI registration of ৳3,000 to ৳25,000 per product family where required, last-mile delivery outside Dhaka at ৳50 to ৳200 per kg, and optional insurance at 0.5 to 1 percent of declared value.
How can I lower my shipping cost?
Consolidate orders from several suppliers into one shipment, ask for wasteful factory packaging to be re-packed flat at the China warehouse, and put bulky low-margin goods such as bedsheets and furniture on sea while reserving air for high-margin or trending items.
What is the minimum shipping charge?
৳400 on general air, ৳600 on sensitive air, ৳500 on the cosmetic lane and ৳1,000 by sea. Below the minimum you are paying for the slot regardless of weight.
